I am no longer going to be posting green opinions here I will always redirect from here to my green website which is pretty much the same as this site except I will only talk about green related topics.  You can see me at http://sedao15.greenpress.com

US EPA best practices June 24, 2009

States need to lead by example.  By implementing practices other people within the state will follow.  So much has the government belated clean energy that now is the time to act.  The fact that states are trying to hop on board now is more important than ever.  I feel very relieved to see all the action that is taking place in our country now.  But more needs to happen.  People can’t wait and see what happens because that is too passive.  As people we need to act to make this climate change.  It is far too important to us now and future generations that we follow good practices to utilize the resources that are all around us.

While working at my hobby job on weekends I talk to far too many people that say they want the government to mandate that people pay the green energy costs.  The power companies are not going to do that because it will cost too much money to install all those projects and in the end it will cost the consumer much more than what they are paying now and not just a couple extra bucks a month.  But what could happen is if the government gave incentives for people to purchase green energy so that way it isn’t an extra cost.

The other opinion I get far too often is that people are waiting till it doesn’t cost anything extra.  But what these people don’t realize is that this isn’t going to happen in the near future.  They might not even be alive to see green energy come into full force but yet they think it is a good idea.  Green energy is a great idea and people need to get involved because then the costs of this green energy will go down.  It is vastly important that green energy gets reduced so that everyone can use it.  Either by ways of government intervention or just more people signing up for it so that the technology improves so that like everything prices will go down.

I have found that the EPA has a good listing of how the state can start using clean energy as their ways of using energy. The EPA has a listing of many strategies that people can use to implement these best practices of using clean energy.  Check out what the EPA states on best practices here.

In today’s world people still try to find the easy way to become “green”.  People need to realize that in order to actually save the earth planting a tree or buying energy isn’t the way to go.  Buying solar panels and wind mills are great but there are basic strategies a person can do to conserve on energy and save the planet.  Taking the bus, carpooling, unplugging the pc or cell phone, having a power strip are numerous ways to save on energy and lower consumption to take the energy off the grid.  These practices can be very simple and common if people just apply it to their every day tasks.

I like to see companies actually implementing these simple practices to their company rather than buying offsets.  For example this company http://www.sundaraspa.com/experience/green-practices.html.

Offsets is a hot button that people love to use because it is easy.  You spend some money and then you can use all the energy you want and not feel bad for the energy wasted.  I was watching King of the Hill the other day and it inspired me to write about offsets.  In the show Strickland Propane dumps waste into the river and in order to create an environmentally friendly image the company goes green.  In the beginning Hank tries to implement practices but then Bud buys offsets because it is easier.  In the end it shows the ignorance of even green freaks because they are happy that Bud is growing trees but he isn’t living green.  In this world we live in it is common place for people to live like this rather than actually converting to green.

I am all for renewable energy, I love the fact that we can produce energy at home that isn’t contaminating the planet. However, there is something that is bothering me about these technologies. If these products are being built on energy how are they being built?

I understand the renewable energy that wind turbines, or solar panels produce greatly surpasses the carbon produced to make but isn’t there an ethical problem to that. Shouldn’t renewable energies be built with renewable energy?
