I am hoping the Mariners read my blog concerning Jason Vargas because he is making an impact in the starting rotation.  However the Fenom is starting to look more like a Failure.  Except for 1 game in May he has allowed at least 5 runs and with almost a 2 WHIP.  The Mariners are going to need both their young pitchers to step up.  Morrow who is flirting with a 10 ERA.  They are going to need Morrow to take over the starter position from Jakubwho to allow him to step down and get to the bullpen.  Speaking about the bullpen the haven’t allowed a run in 4 of their last 5 games.

Against Boston the Mariners pitched 3 new guys in Jakubwho who actually won a game, and Vargas also won a game.  But now that they have started to play back in the AL West they are starting to get back on their skid.  Today we have Jakubwho against the Angels youngster Ervin Santana.  Which is a scary thought.  Well if the hits can come around and the bullpen can keep us close then we’ll have a good shot.

Hernandez lost but his strike to balls ratio was pretty good. 2-1.  Except for his 10 hits 6 runs in 6 innings the Fenom was ok.  So far this season I am very excited about Franklin Gutierrez going 3-4 with an hr and 3rbis the kid is on fire.  His obp is .384. and it is looking very bright for him.

Denny Stark blows.  I am sorry to say but Bedard pitched a tough game against Padilla.  Both putting up stellar numbers.  Padilla going 8 innings and only allowing a hit with 3 walks.  WOW.  Even Bedard pitched 7 innings and only allowed 7 hits.  That’s about as positive as I can spin it.  The Mariners couldn’t hit and forgot how to score.   In the last inning Denny Stark didn’t remember how to get outs.  In the 10th inning the Rangers had 5 hits 6 runs and 1 walk.

Tomorrow is going to be a hit parade.  It is going to depend on who can get the most hits… yeah I know obviously.  But with Silva and Ponson two pitchers who have eras’ above 7 and WHIP above 1.4 the game is going to be long.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see everyone on both teams get a hit.  My prediction is that the bullpens’ will pitch at least 4  innings if not 5 each.  In essence we’ll see what happens but I hate to go with Silva but with Ponson it is very bright to see the Mariners win.

Prediction Mariners win.

Tonight was double header.  I messed up I was caught up with other things.  I am sorry to not stay up date on the Mariners.   Regarding the first game I have guessed right but Jakubwho actually did well, by going 8 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.  That is really good.  That is good enough to win a game.  The Mariners just couldn’t come through.  They had 4 hits and 0 errors.  The games should have gone the way of the Mariners.  Instead the Sox who got only 2 hits and had 2 errors won the game.  How does that happen?

The second game was all Mariners baby.  The Fenom pitched and after getting one run in the first never looked back.  The Mariners were also putting their bats to work.  By getting 19 hits and scoring 9 runs.  There was never a chance for the White sox to come back.  Unfortunately I didn’t make my prediction or else I could be up 4-2.

The Mariners are now 13-8 maintaining a 2.5 game lead in the AL West.  With their record they have the 5th best record in baseball, and are tied for the best road record in the majors.

Like I said yesterday it was going to be a battle but Felix the Fenom came through and the Mariners won the series  improving to 10-6.  Even though the Mariners didn’t hit well and Ichiro didn’t play the small ball the Mariners came away with a win.  With the emergence of Griffey which will add an extra 30-40 wins to the Mariners they are a viable playoff contender.  Griffey might not be the stellar player he once was but his leadership in the clubhouse is incomparable.  Leadership is something the Mariners have lacked since Edgar Martinez and now that they have that missing piece they can win again.  Possibly the one thing they need but shouldn’t give up a lot for is a big bat.  Someone who can slug 30-40 hrs, drive in 100+ runs and get on base .400.  Miguel Cabrera…. Realistically though 20 hrs with potential and 80+ runs and a 370 obp would work too.  Aka Raul Ibanez but even though there isn’t that deep ball threat the team is progressing more than satisfactorily.

Today with Bedard pitching there is a 70% chance the Mariners win today. The reasons are…
1. Bedard is healthy
2. Bedard is a quality pitcher where his last 2 starts were quality starts that should have ended in a win
3. Shane Loux is averaging 2.5 runs per start in roughly 6 innings.
4. Vladimir Guerrero is hurt
5. Mariners have Ichiro

The Mariners will once again come through with a win moving up to 11-6.
